Zero Carbon Rugeley

Symeco was part of the consortium designing a blueprint for converting Rugeley into a zero-carbon town by creating a Smart Local Energy System (SLES). Funded by Innovate UK, Symeco is working as part of the Sustainable Housing Action Partnership (SHAP) team focussing on a domestic retrofit plan.

SHAP’s findings demonstrated the complexity around scaling up retrofit for the 10,500 domestic properties. Some of the challenges included accurate data about the housing stock, supply chain skills and availability, grid constraint and customer engagement.
